What is metal processing?

Innovative solutions in the industry allow to get diverse results, also with regard to metal processing. With proper equipment and by using experience of the workers in practice, you can without any problems start modifying chosen raw materials on a broad scale. To put it simple, metal processing can be defined as a technological process that focuses on the change of the parameters of the original metals, such as its shape, dimensions and chemical and physical properties. In order to achieve desired effects, the conducted process must involve a set of phases, which gradually change the consecutive features of the metals.

Types of metalworking

Considering certain types of metal processing, we can differentiate for example:

  • Plastic working – that includes changing a present shape of metals. It is conducted in cold (cold working) or hot conditions (hot working) depending on the technological possibilities. The basic phases of plastic working involve forging (conducted manually or mechanically), pressing, drawing and bending.
  • In case of heat treatment, which is used most often while modifying steel, as a result of a thermic process, the foregoing structure of the alloy changes (mainly the external layer, and what is equally important – its properties – e.g. the highest rigidity of the material is obtained as a result of hardening process).
  • Mechanical working – also called machining, focuses on milling, rolling and sanding in order to obtain any dimension and shape of the object.

Machines used for metalworking

More and more advanced metalworking in the particular phases is possible due to the usage of modern tools. Functional machines make preparing metals to achieve their final form faster and more efficient.
